Virgin Active operates 238 health clubs in 8 countries and is passionate about helping people live an active lifestyle. As Virgin Active South Africa’s product design partner, we worked on various web projects before shifting focus to their mobile app. We also supported the South East Asia and UK teams with strategic projects.

The Virgin Active app houses a range of features and services for club members; from timetables to class bookings, club capacity, activity history, managing your membership and more. Virgin Active’s timely addition of online workouts ensured they kept up with global trends and ahead of the curve in the South African market. The UI is purposefully clean and understated to bring focus to the workout content.
Ready, steady, sprint!
One of the most rewarding projects we tackled with Virgin Active was a Design Sprint based on the principles and framework developed by Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky & Brad Kowitz. It’s amazing what you can achieve with the right people in a room, fully focused on solving a single problem. In 4 days we built and tested a realistic prototype for a scalable platform where Virgin Active members can be matched with, connect / communicate with, and book sessions with a Personal Trainer.

With our Sprint prototype as a starting point, we went on to design a platform where members can find in-club experts to help them achieve their fitness goals. "Find a Personal Trainer” grew to include swimming coaches, biokineticists and more.
